Dane Rudhyar, Power at the Crossroads

I was quite shocked to read the following post yesterday:

http://reikiserpent.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/cameron-strikes-again-you-wont-believe-this/

Then I followed up on it here:

http://www.wakingtimes.com/2013/08/02/war-on-consciousness-takes-to-the-internet-as-esoteric-websites-to-be-censored-in-uk/

In short: “The UK government has proposed a bill to make Internet service providers automatically block websites dubbed esoteric material”. That means people in the UK could be shut off from websites the UK government deems “esoteric” unless they go in and manually un-tick their network filters.”

I may be naive but I doubt whether this initiative will be followed through. But it is symptomatic of the uneasiness of the Plutocrats as to how much power the so called “esoteric websites” have been having in what Dane Rudhyar called the reorientation and repolarization of human consciousness. Rudhyar was one of the seed man of the New Aga cultural revolution, one of the brightest minds of the previous century and a pioneer of modern transpersonal free-will astrology. He was a brilliant writer, painter and composer. I have reread his article “Astrological Timing: The Transition to the New Age,“ (source: http://www.khaldea.com/rudhyar/at/at_pro_p1.shtml) where I found a passage on how Rudhyar envisions the transition to the New Era of consciousness, which might be of interest to James Cameron, the British Prime Minister who proposed the bill, if only he were able to listen:

What seems to me more likely is that the very basis of our science, our technology, our way of programming social existence will be altered. It may not be altered rapidly by man-made wars and revolution or by telluric upheavals. It may not be altered everywhere at the same time. There may be “germinal groups” co-existing with an increasingly deteriorating technocratic Establishment, whether at the global, or only at the national level. It is not even inconceivable that the parallel to a Roman Empire after the beginning of the Aquarian Age will be a network of deeply spiritually intent groups and communities whose members will not only intellectually, but occultly or “telepathically,” realize their unity as components of the global organism of MAN while the “Barbarians” will be represented by the power-greedy politicians, the intellectuals, the worshipers of university knowledge and of machine-technology. The roles may thus be reversed, but eventually the followers of the old order would become spiritually fecundated by those groups which they probably would have tried to destroy, as Germanic tribes became Christianized and transformed by the symbols, the language, the social concepts and to some extent the manners of those they conquered.

  1. Modern thought reveals plenty especially through advanced individuals as Dane Rudhyar. His ability to discern planetary influences related to current events is phenomenal.
Thank you for presenting this relevant material. Much appreciated!

Wow…that really sounds extreme…to actually block access to esoteric sites…I really hope it doesn’t happen, because if it happens in one country..then it can spread to others :/

It is rather extreme. I just can’t see it happening in a liberal democracy like the UK. If it did it would be a sad day. Great post. Brilliant quote. I don’t know Dane Rudhyar. Do I detect a touch of anti-intellectualism in him, or is that just me.

    • Well, he was most certainly an intellectual himself. I think he was not anti-intellectual, maybe he directed his ctiticism at those scholars who were pro-establishment and quite limited in their worldview. I certainly met a lot of them when I was studying psychology.

We may not live in the UK, but like shreejacob mentioned, if it happens in one country, it could spread to others.
PS – I love Dane Rudhyar, too.

  5. I know that in fact TPTB do not have our best interest at hand. In fact they play the part in this saga of the bad guy and the oppressor. We are the good guys and the liberators. What we imagine being is what we will manifest, so I suggest we all stay focused on What We Want and not what we do not want. Just my 2 cents.

We are Free, We are Happy, We are United and Whole.

    Much love,

  6. I do not think this legislation will pass, but I understand some of the dynamics at play. I use Rudhyar’s book on sabian symbols but know little of him beyond that, Now I am eager to learn more, as I totally concur about his ideas. What he describes I believe has always occurred in cycles throughout much of history. I feel that the genesis ( no pun intended) behind the warring factions can be explained by A Course In Miracles which says in the intro:

This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.

This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:

    Nothing real can be threatened.
    Nothing unreal exists.

Herein lies the peace of God.

      • Monika, surely you jest! Do you know Marianne Williamson? I have been studying it since the late 1980s and it came out in the 1970s. It has been translated into many languages across the globe. Ok now I must settle down… I hope it will peak your interest. The material is a cumbersome read but you read Jung so….. It contains the tools to undo the artificial separation between the material plane and the Divine. perhaps I need to finally blog about this, I just have been dragging my heels.

sorry for the mini rant, I just adore this material, it is so mind blowing ( pun intended) FB has plenty of material if you care to explore further 🙂

Thank you for this post. I’m astonished. It suggests that those in power have done very little internal work, and that they wish curious minds to adhere to formulae. Petition signed!

  12. Monika, the comments this post has generated should be read by the UK officials! Thank you for posting the info, and Linda for posting a petition in the comments. It’s interesting to participate in the push-pull, stop-start of humanity’s re-awakening. The re-evolution is underway, fomented on the will to know. The internet has served remarkably and that genie cannot be put back in a bottle. Each time someone rubs it, with a “search” or posts an FYI on Facebook, or tweets a note from the underground in some war torn location, the genie provides exactly what we’ve asked for: information that leads us to a wider truth.

You’re right, it’s harder the hide the truth now. The people of the UK won’t stand for such foolishness as curtailment of information.

    • Donna, I missed you. I like your genie analogy, it fits very well. I also find it interesting in connection with the Snowden scandal, how valuable information has become and how those in power want to possess it and control it.

      Like

      • Totally. Once again, the USA has acted selfish and foolish – re: Snowden. (my opinion, of course.) Information has already won the day on a global scale. Not only is the genie out, and constantly is its lamp re-rubbed, but the internet is like a rain in a canyon. It flash floods so much bigger than anyone expects and is unstoppable. Such is the information age.

I have thought of you often, and hope you feel renewed in every way. I look forward to a season of deep musings with you!

“The “Barbarians” will be represented by the power-greedy politicians, the intellectuals, the worshipers of university knowledge and of machine-technology.” While I love this line, I see these groups more as dinosaurs than barbarians. They are sinking in the mud of change and desperately grasping at the straws of the world they are used to, but which no longer exists. They are the last obstacle blocking the way to a global shift in human consciousness. I just hope I am around to see the great change.

As always, thanks for your thought-provoking posts!! Cheers.

In the other hand, what are people living in this modern democracy really afraid of when there’s a call for such a weird bill?

    • Cool, thanks. I will listen to all those podcasts, they seem promising.

      Like

    • Yes, that was very interesting. I recently took part in an astrological workshop in Poland, and we discussed very similar issues. One thing that I was disappointed about in this particular podcast was their approach to mythology because myth and astrology is so tightly intertwined for me that I get emotional when anyone would question or doubt that. My Polish astrologer friends do not use much mythology, either, which just shows me that I always need to find my own path.
I guess that is the problem of modern astrology: so many schools, so many conflicting views and so many ego trips. The ability to hold multiple viewpoints is a virtue we should strive to achieve. I did not see any of that in Poland though – the workshop was very interesting and advanced, but there was too much emphasis on the ‘we do astrology best’ conviction.

      • Thank you, it is comforting to hear from someone like you with my anima mundi mythic viewpoint, as I also became somewhat emotional- but the skepticism is healthy for me to work out more why I really believe what I do. I am interested in more ancient and traditional techniques, though- for some reason (I don’t know whats up in my chart or the celestial spheres) but I am coming into contact with a lot of Hellenistic astrologers and there seems to be a lot of arguments between practictioners of traditional vs. more “modern” Soul-based techniques, but I know have my own research task to find out really how “modern” a Soul-based technique is- I feel like it would be ancient, in a different context of course. I think there are a lot of interesting points in that podcast, though. The house system discussion one is interesting, and makes a strong case for the consideration of Whole sign, and there is a big wave there. I’m starting to realize I must have some old Persian and Babylonian or Arabic or something connection, though, with some of the techniques I may use, and yes the myths from there were taken by the Greeks, and I too feel strongly about the connection between myth and astrology. But it is good for me to question things and my own beliefs. I am bringing up some issues to Hellenistic astrologers I have, such as that the context of Alexander the Greek basically colonizing areas of “Persia” and supplanting leaders who then took that astrological knowledge and incorporated it, and wondering for me about the accuracy of translations and actual context . . . but anyway this would be a big research project for me to take on. It is all very interesting, though, and the Hellenistic time period is interesting it is such a draw in astrology right now for the reason that all those cultures collided so violently in that time period. Thank you, Monika.

      • This is all fascinating, I think you would be an ideal person to weave it all together, to show that there is a connection instead of dismemberment. Funny how the myth of Osiris always comes back to you in many ways and forms. Can you recommend any online resources dedicated to Hellenistic astrology or whole sign houses? I also feel that ancient knowledge is always worth retrieving.

      • My hope is just for all astrologers to truly question the implications of their beliefs, but also to be open to other perspectives. They brought that idea up in the podcast, personally I’m still waiting to see how many people I see actually doing that. I am very open to the idea- I would love to synthesize some more ancient techniques with some of the archetypal understanding I’ve learned from more esoteric and “evolutionary” perspectives on astrology.

      • I guess you are right about Osiris. One resource is Chris Brennan who is the host of that podcast. He has one discussion on House system that references Hellenistic, and then there is another discussion I have only partially listened to that is very fascinating comparing Hellenistic and Indian. He has been one of the key people bringing back Whole sign and history of astrology, it seems. Demetra George and Robert Hand are twoo well known “modern” people also working with older material too. I think Chris works through Kepler college and has a lot of resources, but I haven’t investigated much of it yet. Austin Coppock who was his guest on that future edition is also apparently working with Hellenistic now and he has his own website too.

      • Great, thank you very much. I will start with the podcasts as previously intended. I have finally finished The Astrology of Fate by Liz Greene, and she also mentioned old methods there. I might want to reread those parts. She writes about men like Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, but most extensively about Julius Firmicus Maternus, who wrote in the 4th century AD, when “Greek and Roman paganism, Near Eastern and Hellenised Egyptian mystery cults, Jewish and early Christian gnosticism and kabbalism, Persian dualism and early Church Fathers were all weaving their myriad colourful religious strands together in a great patchwork of syncretism.” Then she writes about other Renaissance men like Luca Gaurica, who was extremely successful at predicting events. Well, thanks for the inspiration, Gray.

      • What is Liz Greene’s take on fate and astrology? Is it basically that there is fate in astrology, but we have the power to develop our own responses to the fate in the chart, so it isn’t like everything is pre-determined?

        Like

      • I think it is basically what you say if we were to put it in a nutshell. She seems to differentiate between fate, which she equals with the planet Pluto; and destiny, which etymologically means “to stand apart, be different.” When we become more individuated something important happens, a new quality develops.

      • I have just been listening to the podcast about house divisions, it is amazing! Especially the part about the Ascendant being poised between heaven and earth, just wow. From now on I am going to use both systems. It just will take some getting used to having Saturn in the 12th house now.

        Like

      • Yeah, that is the best part I think and also makes me more open to Whole sign system. I must re-think some transits of my life cause previously I thought they made sense. My oldest daughter was born right when Saturn went into Gemini, so that happening with Saturn entering my first house (becoming father) at least makes sense. But yeah, no longer having a 12th House Moon, Uranus moving to 6th and Neptune and north node to 7th (for me) these are big changes to take in. Also, the meaning of the houses is different than modern so to use it would mean you’d really have to learn the whole Hellenistic system (or Medieval). The podcast on Indian vs. Hellenistic I think is my favorite, I find it very fascinating.
